Cancún and Los Cabos are, without question, Mexico’s two most requested destinations for Indian and South Asian destination weddings. Ask ten couples why they’re drawn to one over the other, and you’ll get ten different answers rooted in the same handful of questions: What kind of landscape do you want as your backdrop? What’s your budget, and how far does it need to stretch? Do you want an all-inclusive experience, or something more curated? And does the destination have the cultural infrastructure to actually deliver on a multi-day Indian or South Asian celebration?
This guide walks through both destinations side by side, so you can figure out which one actually fits your vision before you fall in love with a single resort.

Two Coastlines, Two Completely Different Vibes
A destination wedding in Cancún looks the way most people picture a Mexican beach wedding: turquoise Caribbean water, swaying palms, jungle and mangrove greenery pressing right up against the resort corridor. It's humid, tropical, and built for big energy. The dry season runs roughly November through April, which is when most large Indian weddings here get booked, and hurricane season (June through November) is worth planning around if you're set on an outdoor ceremony.
Los Cabos feels like an entirely different country. This is desert meeting sea: sun-bleached cliffs, the dramatic rock arch at Land's End, and two coastlines (the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez) meeting at the tip of the Baja Peninsula. The climate is arid rather than tropical, generally sunnier and drier year-round, with only a short, mild rainy stretch in late summer. Where Cancún feels lush and energetic, Los Cabos feels polished and dramatic, a landscape built for couples who want their wedding photos to look like nowhere else in Mexico.

Where to Say "I Do": Cancún's Best Wedding Venues
Cancún's resort corridor is enormous. We work across a deep roster of wedding-ready resorts here, organized into four collections by investment level, from accessible all-inclusive properties to five-star reserve-tier resorts. A few stand out as representative of the range: Moon Palace Cancún, with ten venues and one of the most established South Asian wedding programs on the peninsula; AVA Resort Cancún, with oceanfront views from every room and space for up to 400 guests; and Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancún, a strong entry point for couples working with a tighter budget.

That's just a sample. If Cancún is your leading contender, our full breakdown of Cancún's resorts by collection tier goes into far more depth than we have room for here. Read the full Cancún wedding resorts guide.
Standout Wedding Venues in Los Cabos
Los Cabos runs smaller but skews noticeably more upscale. Across its three sub-areas, the Tourist Corridor, San José del Cabo, and Cabo San Lucas, we work with a more selective roster, and unlike Cancún's, there isn't a single budget-tier property in the mix. Everything here starts at a higher price point.
A few worth knowing: Esperanza, Auberge Collection, the only property across both destinations explicitly tagged South Asian Friendly, a designation that speaks directly to Indian couples researching Los Cabos, offering an intimate, adults-only luxury setting; Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos, with fifteen venues, proof that Los Cabos can absolutely handle a large-scale celebration when you need one; and Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos, one of the more family-friendly options in a destination that otherwise leans heavily adults-only. A dedicated guide to the full Los Cabos roster is coming soon for couples who want the complete picture.

Wedding Packages and the All-Inclusive Question
This is where the two destinations genuinely diverge. Cancún wedding packages are almost always built around the all-inclusive model: your room block determines your complimentary event hours, open bar access, and venue availability, and packages scale up generously the more room nights your guests book.
Los Cabos wedding packages work differently. The all-inclusive concept exists here, but it's far less dominant. Most Los Cabos properties operate on a more à la carte, boutique luxury model, where you're paying for a more curated, personalized experience rather than a bundled resort package. Neither approach is better outright, but if an all-inclusive wedding built to handle Indian wedding logistics is a priority for your guests, Cancún is built for that in a way Los Cabos simply isn't as consistently.

Los Cabos

A more curated, personalized experience where you pay for what you choose, rather than a bundled resort package. All-inclusive exists, but it's far less common.

South Asian Wedding Traditions: Cancún vs. Los Cabos Compared
Cancún has the deeper bench here. The majority of resorts across our four collection tiers now staff in-house Indian chefs and have real, repeated experience hosting Baraat processions, Sangeet nights, and multi-day ceremony sequencing for South Asian weddings at scale.
Los Cabos is earlier in that journey when it comes to Indian wedding infrastructure, though it's catching up. Fewer properties advertise in-house Indian cuisine outright, but Esperanza's explicit South Asian Friendly designation signals real intent, and the destination's smaller, more intimate resort style can actually suit a more focused, ceremony-light South Asian celebration well. If your wedding leans toward a smaller guest list with fewer distinct ceremonies, Los Cabos' gap here matters less than it would for a five-day, 300-guest affair.

So, Which One Fits Your Vision?
If you're drawn to lush, tropical energy, a large multi-day guest list, and the flexibility of an all-inclusive package across every budget tier, Cancún is built for exactly that. If you're picturing something more intimate, more visually dramatic, and don't mind a higher price floor in exchange for a more curated, adults-only experience, Los Cabos is the stronger fit.
Choose Cancún if you want
- Lush, tropical energy
- A large, multi-day guest list
- All-inclusive flexibility across every budget tier
Choose Los Cabos if you want
- Something more intimate
- A more visually dramatic backdrop
- A curated, adults-only experience, with a higher price floor
Neither destination is the objectively "better" choice for a South Asian wedding. They're simply built for different visions, and the fastest way to know which one is yours is to get honest about your guest count, your budget ceiling, and how much of the all-inclusive resort experience actually matters to you.
